a film called black

A Film Called Black is the collaborative vision of Chicago-based filmmaker/musician Cam Be and hip-hop artist/producer Neak. Together, they form a multidisciplinary duo creating work at the intersection of sound, cinema, and Black consciousness.

Blending soulful boom bap production with cinematic vision, their art is rooted in legacy, identity, and creative sovereignty. Drawing from hip-hop, funk, and soul, their work spans studio albums, short films, and immersive live experiences that reflect the complexity and brilliance of Black life.

With a sound shaped by Chicago’s rich musical tradition and a visual aesthetic influenced by vérité filmmaking and portraiture, the duo explores themes like fatherhood, kingship, transformation, and Black artistry. Collaborations with artists like Skyzoo, J. Ivy, and Oliv Blu have further elevated their cultural impact.

Their forthcoming debut album, A Film Called Black (May 19), is both a record and a living document—accompanied by an evolving film experience that invites audiences to see, hear, and feel the story in real time.
